Love More Powerful Than Alzheimer’s

February 23, 2013

My own mom had Alzheimer’s, and working in the home care business, we see many clients that suffer from the disease.  It can be heartbreaking to see the changes and debilitation that occur in our loved ones.  Perhaps the greatest source of grief is that they may not recognize us.  We become strangers to the ones we love most deeply.

In Bellingham, Washington, a man married his wife a second time because she did not remember who he was.   As one article comments, the first wedding was  a simple affair with a handful of participants.  The second time around, they were surrounded by their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

We have not yet found a cure for Alzheimer’s, but you can’t beat a little bit of love.
