Five Things About Dementia

December 11, 2023

Here are five facts about dementia that you may not know:

  1. Dementia is not a normal part of aging. While it is true that the risk of developing dementia increases with age, it is not a normal part of aging. In fact, many people over the age of 65 do not develop dementia.
  2. There is no one cause of dementia.Dementia is caused by a variety of factors, including damage to the brain, genetics, and lifestyle choices.
  3. Dementia is not a single disease. There are many different types of dementia, each with its own unique symptoms. The most common types of dementia are Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, and Lewy body dementia.
  4. Dementia is a progressive disease. This means that the symptoms of dementia will worsen over time. There is currently no cure for dementia, but there are treatments that can help to slow the progression of the disease.
  5. Dementia can have a significant impact on the lives of both the person with dementia and their caregivers.Dementia can cause a person to lose their independence, their memory, and their ability to think clearly. It can also cause caregivers to feel stressed, exhausted, and overwhelmed.

If you are concerned that you or someone you know may have dementia, it is important to see a doctor for a diagnosis. There are many resources available to help people with dementia and their caregivers.
