Controlling Blood Sugar Can Reduce Your Risk For Dementia

October 9, 2015

Scientists have discovered a link between elevated blood-sugar and dementia. The study looked at how controlling glucose in the blood affected the risk of being diagnosed with dementia in the future. Patients with Type 2 diabetes and poor blood-sugar control had a 50% higher risk of being admitted to a hospital than those with blood-sugar under control. Diabetic patients who keep their glucose levels in check might reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease and other types of cognitive impairment. Scientists say the results show that monitoring blood-sugar levels closely with physicians treating patients with any cognitive decline will allow earlier solutions to treating the disease. Diabetes can also cause heart disease, kidney failure, blindness and death.
