Your Pharmacist Works for You
That may not be precisely the truth, but let’s face it: if it were not for you and other people needing medicine, your pharmacist would not have a job.
In any event, if you are a caregiver for someone with dementia and other age-related concerns, or if you have been prescribed lots of meds yourself, it’s important that you take control of them. Know what they are for and enlist the assistance of your pharmacist in the process. Before you leave the pharmacy, be sure to:
- Make sure you can read the labels. If the print is too small, ask the pharmacist if they can print it in larger font.
- Confirm that the vials have your name on them.
- Request easy-open caps, if needed; of course, make sure such bottles are not where kids can access them.
- Most importantly – make sure you can read and understand the instructions on the container and that they are in line with what you doctor told you.
If you have any concerns, discuss with your pharmacist. The good news is that if you live in Chapel Hill or surrounding areas like Hillsborough, Durham and Pittsboro, salespeople are service-oriented and will likely be happy to help.
