The People’s Choice!
In 2018, the Chapel Hill-Carrboro community voted Acorn as the People’s Choice for “Best Helping Hands”.
Hometown Hero
In 2018, WCHL radio named Lorenzo a “Hometown Hero” for his work as founder of the Dementia Friendly Orange County project.
Dementia Care Professional of the Year
In 2014, Acorn founder Lorenzo Mejia was named the Dementia Care Professional of the Year by the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA). This was a national award based on Lorenzo’s community service, and advocacy for people with dementia and Alzheimer’s.
Orange County Quality Service Awards
Acorn received the first-ever Service Award from the Board of Commissioners of Orange County. The award was granted based on our volunteer service to the senior community and our advocacy for people with dementia. We received the award again in 2016. Read more.
Orange County Caregiver of the Year Award
We are proud that one of our favorite people, caregiver Cassandra Graham, was named the Caregiver of the Year by Orange County in 2015.
Qualified Dementia Care Professionals
Both Acorn founders are Qualified Dementia Care Professionals. This is the highest certification given by the Dementia Care Professionals of America.
