Disappointing News for Dementia Caregivers

June 14, 2018

Anyone living in the Chapel Hill area with a loved one with Alzheimer’s Disease received bad news this week with the announcement by drug manufacturer Lilly that it was ending testing on an experimental drug meant to battle the disease.

Despite millions invested in development of this therapy, an independent research group found that it was not likely to be effective. Lilly commented that it was concluding the trial simply because it wasn’t working and not as a result of any safety concerns.

Lilly confirmed its intention to begin work on another experimental Alzheimer’s drug immediately. Overall, this is disappointing news for caregivers as the pharmaceutical industry has invested billions in the pursuit of a cure for the disease – over several experimental drugs and clinical trials — with no results.
