The Caring Corner®
Dementia Friendly Orange County (DFOC) is proud to announce that we recently passed the 1000-people-trained milestone, with 94 community businesses and organizations going through training.
DFOC is a not-for-profit collaboration between the East Chapel Hill Rotary Club and the Orange County Department on Aging. The training consists of a video explaining what dementia is along with various industry vignettes highlighting strategies for assisting people with dementia in a variety of retail and public settings. It takes 60 to 90 minutes, depending on the questions asked and degree of discussion.
There is no cure for dementia. There is nothing we can do to change someone who has dementia. The only thing we can do is change our selves, by understanding what it is, how it affects the brain, and how we can make life easier for people who have it.
Dementia Friendly Orange County offers this training at no charge, at your place of business, or at the Department on Aging senior centers located in Chapel Hill and Hillsborough.
DFOC was founded by Lorenzo Mejia, owner of Acorn.
