Memory screenings are appropriate for individuals who may be concerned about deteriorating memory or, possibly, dementia.  They also make sense for people who do not have a memory concern currently, but who would like to establish a baseline for future comparison.

Be aware that memory screening is not performed in order to diagnose a particular illness.  Screenings do not replace consultation with your physician or other qualified healthcare professional.

Consider the following bullet points to see if you ought to consider a memory screening.

  • Have friends observed changes in my personality or behavior?
  • Is it hard for me to concentrate?
  • Do I misplace things often?
  • Do I have difficulty remembering words in conversation?
  • Do I often forget people’s names?
  • Do I forget where I am or where I am going?
  • Do friends tell me that I repeat things over and over?
  • Have I ever gotten lost while walking or driving?
  • Am I becoming more forgetful?
  • Is it becoming hard for me to perform familiar tasks?
