Turmeric, A Natural Remedy for Dementia?

If you happen to live in Chapel Hill, NC where we operate our home care agency, you may wish to visit the local Indian restaurants more frequently!

A recent study identifies curcumin, the primary component of turmeric as having properties that may help turn back the cerebral deterioration that occurs with aging.

Currently, there is no cure for dementia, whether it be Alzheimer’s, fronto-temporal dementia, Lewy-Body disease, or other variant.  At best, there are medications that, for some patients, slow the advance of the disease.   This gives even more reason why natural solutions warrant greater attention.

In the recent study, rats were given curcumin.  After one month of treatment, investigators observed significant restoration of the  ability of the cerebral blood vessels to naturally relax.  The scientists concluded that curcumin treatment may be effective to reverse age-related cerebrovascular dysfunction.
