Caregiver Screening Process

We put caregivers though a rigorous, multi-step interview process and competency assessment to give you peace of mind as you make arrangements for yourself or a loved one. Our process is so stringent that we offer opportunities to fewer than 7% of the individuals who apply.

Our assessment includes:

  • Acorn Aptitude Assessment ™ (AAA):  The first thing we do is ask candidates to take a personality assessment to gauge their aptitude for caregiving
  • Follow-up interview to review in greater depth skills, ability and compatibility with Acorn’s mission, vision and values.
  • Comprehensive background checks including criminal background (national and state) and driving record
  • Skills test to assess knowledge

Why a Personality Test?

The best caregivers are caring, honest, reliable and compassionate.  Unfortunately, there is no certification to help us identify these kinds of people! We can use science, however, to help us find people who exhibit these attributes.  Large corporations use these tests all the time. It helps them make sure that people who have the potential to be great salesmen, for example, go into sales, and not accounting.

We are aware of no other agency in our market area that uses these type of tests.  They cost a great deal to license, but give us additional insight when we meet an applicant.
