Alzheimer’s is #6 Killer
According to a recent Business Insider article, Alzheimer’s disease is the number 6 killer in the United States. To make matters more troubling, there are no drugs that cure the disease (existing drugs only alleviate symptoms), and many attempts at drug development have failed.
According to this article, over 100 drugs have failed in past decades. Of the major drug companies, Merck is notable for maintaining its current research effort on Alzheimer’s. Both Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson have pulled the plug on recent trials. One can only hope that Merck will be successful.
