Vitamin E and Alzheimer’s

January 6, 2014

A new study, lead by Dr. Maurice Dysken, has that Vitamin E maybe be used to slow the development of Alzheimer’s Disease. Although there is no conclusive evidence to support these claims, participants of this study have been found to improve, giving hope for the future of dementia patients everywhere.

The study had 600 participants, with some receiving regular care, and others Vitamin E as well. Although there is no concrete evidence, those who took Vitamin E needed, on average, two hours less care, which for some families can make all the difference in the world.

Vitamin E can also improve skin health, which helps preserve cells, an important detail to pay attention to as you if you wish to age healthily. Not only that, but it also is full of antioxidants, an important component in cancer prevention.

And best of all, it’s extremely easy to get Vitamin E, by natural or clinical means. It can be found in most plants or plant byproducts, such as leafy greens, seeds, nuts or oils. It can also be found in multiple pills or supplement forms, many of which are very affordable. But like with all medicine, you can overdose, so use Vitamin E with care.

There is currently no cure for Alzheimer’s Disease. There is also no firm evidence to suggest that Vitamin E actually helps slow down the development of Alzheimer’s. But this study gives hope.

The path to a cure is never a clear one, and a study like this, one that gives any amount of comfort to a family desperate for a solution, is truly a blessing. We can only hope that if another study is performed by Dr. Dysken, one that proves the ability of Vitamin E, that with this new found knowledge we will be able to help those in need.
