“YOUR ELECTRICITY/PHONE/GAS SERVICE WILL BE DISCONNECTED”

The caller claims to be from a utility company. They tell you that you are over due and that service will be disconnected unless you pay immediately.  The caller asks for your bank account number or credit card number, and then makes withdrawals from your account.

GO BACK TO WESTERN UNION/MONEYGRAM

As a follow up to some of the cons listed earlier, someone calls saying that the recent payment (phony utility bill, etc.) was never received.  They tell you to resend your payment.

WAL-MART STORE VOUCHER SCAM

A con artist calls claiming to represent Wal-Mart or another major retailer.  He tells you have won special vouchers worth $495 as part of a national promotion.  He requests banking information to withdraw $4.95 as processing fees.  They will remove money from your checking account, sometimes more than once.

ABUSIVE BILL COLLECTOR

Someone calls, pretending to be a bill collector.  He threatens you with lawsuits.  The con artist may even threaten you with arrest or physical harm. Their objective is to harass you until you pay.
