Coffee Linked to Avoidance of Alzheimer’s Disease

December 8, 2012

Is too much coffee a good thing?

Researchers from the University of South Florida and the University of Miami say that caffeine/coffee intake is associated with a reduced risk, or the delayed onset of, dementia. Their findings appear in an article in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease.

The study’s lead author stated that the results “suggest that older adults with mild memory impairment who drink moderate levels of coffee — about 3 cups a day — will not convert to Alzheimer’s disease — or at least will experience a substantial delay before converting to Alzheimer’s.

While the key ingredient that affects the results appears to be caffeine, the study makes no comment about caffeine we might consume from tea or soft drinks.

Meanwhile, I’m off to Starbuck’s.   I’ll be the guy asking for a Trente!
